The death of my parents changed me.

How much how parents mean to us we do not know. As an undergraduate in one of the most respected universities in Nigeria. Their demise has created an earthquake in my life. They were my friends, mentors, who did all they can for my sake.  I was always encouraged by my parents since childhood. How would I survive after their death? I always thought.   I have always been a very bright and intelligent student. I had A's in my examinations. I was always determined to be the first. After their demise, things started changing. I cared less about my academic excellence, their memories I could not delete. What a cruel world I live in! All my family members deserted me and my siblings. I am nowhere to be recognised again. A student, Sodiq Oyeleke, who spent 10 years in the medical school of the University of Ilorin and dropped out before his final exam only to re-enroll in mass communication for another three years has earned a First Class from the University of Lagos.

Kindly tell us about yourself I am Mansur Akolade Ismaila. I just graduated with a Bachelors degree from the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. How do you feel graduating as a first class student? I feel happy and I feel relieved, too. What are the factors responsible for your feat? The God factor; mentorship and guidance; focus and doggedness; broad-based teaching and support from my lecturers; my academic and cognitive maturity, harnessed from my years in medical school. You were a medical student? I was in the University of Ilorin, where I studied Medicine and Surgery for a total of 10 years, precisely between 2001 and 2011.
