United we want to stand

Our Unity; Our Joy
Our Love; Our Pride
Why have they not reason
What our fathers strived for
Our togetherness they desire
Setting aside their differences.

No one knows its end
Only it start we desire
United we all are today
Some wanting division.

Resources they boast of
Wanting it all to their self
The sharing they detest
For it should all be theirs.

Have they not learnt at all
The walking alone of others
Such as a snake we all know
That has made killing it easy.


A man with zeal and enthusiasm.

A student, Sodiq Oyeleke, who spent 10 years in the medical school of the University of Ilorin and dropped out before his final exam only to re-enroll in mass communication for another three years has earned a First Class from the University of Lagos.

Kindly tell us about yourself I am Mansur Akolade Ismaila. I just graduated with a Bachelors degree from the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. How do you feel graduating as a first class student? I feel happy and I feel relieved, too. What are the factors responsible for your feat? The God factor; mentorship and guidance; focus and doggedness; broad-based teaching and support from my lecturers; my academic and cognitive maturity, harnessed from my years in medical school. You were a medical student? I was in the University of Ilorin, where I studied Medicine and Surgery for a total of 10 years, precisely between 2001 and 2011. Can you share some of your experiences at UNILORIN? UNILORIN was hellish for me. I never wanted to become a medical doctor in the first place. Ola-Gbadamosi Ridwan Oladotun, LASU Best Graduating Student Speaks

LAGOS—best graduating student at the faculty of Engineering, Lagos State University, in the 2017/18 academic year, Ola-Gbadamosi Ridwan Oladotun, yesterday, told a courageous story of how he had to do menial jobs to educate himself. Oladotun, at the 23rd convocation ceremony of LASU in Ojo campus, held the audience spell bound with his story of breeding chickens before attending classes just to gather enough money for books and school fees. The 22-year old Mechanical Engineering graduate, who made a cumulative grade point average, CGPA of 4.88 to emerge overall best graduating student, said in his valedictory speech that he was determined to succeed and therefore did not mind what he had to go through. Oladotun, who disclosed that he lost his mother at age 12, expressed happiness that his achievement has wiped off all his hardship in school.
